ACC Dual Credit

Process for enrolling in Allen Community College Courses Offered at OCHS

1.         Take the ASSET test.  This includes a section of reading, writing, and math.  This will be given by ACC personnel on Monday, February 27 starting at 8:30 a.m.  It will take most of the morning.  Students who have ACT scores on file may not need to take the ASSET test (see below).

            A.   Must score a minimum of:    41 in Writing

                                                                 39 in Reading

                                                                 39 in Math

            B.   May substitute ACT scores (minimum):

                                                                 16  in English

                                                                 16 in Reading

                                                                 20 in Math

            C.  If a student does not meet the minimum scores to enroll in the class he/she wants to take, he/she may retest one time at ACC in Burlingame.  Students must call April Sherry at 785-654-2416 or work with Mrs. Camarena to set up a time to test; they do have evening hours available for testing.

2.  Current cost is $107.00 per credit hour.  ALL CLASSES EXCEPT CALCULUS ARE 3 CREDIT HOURS, SO THE TOTAL TUITION PER CLASS IS $321.  Calculus is a 5 credit hour class that lasts all school year; payment is due in August.  The fee for Calculus is $535.  Online classes require an additional $75 technology fee so the total for classes taken online is $396 per class.

3.  Courses Offered:

Fall – ACC Government (Marple), ACC American History to 1865 (Crawford), ACC Psychology (Marple), ACC College Algebra (Watkins), ACC Calculus (Watkins).

Spring – ACC Government (Marple), ACC American History from 1865 (Crawford),  ACC Sociology (Marple), ACC Trigonometry (Watkins), ACC Calculus – continued from fall (Watkins), ACC Public Speaking (Crane).

4.  Classes are available to juniors and seniors.  Sophomores who are in the gifted education program or who request permission and have an exemplary GPA may be allowed to take dual credit classes as well.

5.  After passing required entrance tests, students will fill out enrollment paperwork with Mrs. Camarena.  This will include their proposed ACC schedule and total fees.  THIS MUST BE SIGNED BY A PARENT AND RETURNED TO SCHOOL TO OFFICIALLY ENROLL IN A STUDENT IN THESE CLASSES.

6.  Students may enroll in an online class that is not offered at OCHS.  Typical classes that students enroll in online include English Comp I, Intro to Literature, and English Comp II.  Students will be assigned a block of time in the computer lab to work on this class.  Seniors, with permission, may work on these classes at home.  Please use your best judgment regarding whether or not your student can handle an online class.  There is no supervision or progress-monitoring at OCHS because we do not have access to these classes.  Students who enroll in online classes must be self-motivated and able to meet demanding deadlines.
